Introduction by PayPro CEO

PayPro Europe
Dear Friends,

Welcome to PayPro's April newsletter!

Another successful ISDEF conference has come to an end. It has already become a tradition of ours to support the ISV community of CIS and Ukraine. This conference, four PayPro representatives came over and enjoyed the nice and friendly atmosphere of ISDEF Spring, which is less formal than traditional fall ISDEF conferences. Eugen Rosca, PayPro sales manager, gave a presentation in the marketing section on choosing optimal sales strategy depending on the licensing model. We would be glad to share it with you as well. Don't hesitate to contact us regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, PayPro vendors continue to benefit from all the improvements implemented into PayPro EasyCommerce platform during the last month. We will give a close look into all system updates later on, in the technical section. The majority of these updates is created as a response to the clients' requests and demonstrates how much we value you as our clients. In short, we have expanded a number of report options, product pricing features, discounts and CD delivery.

We've been thinking about trends in the software industry and what would be interesting to write about this time. Mac Apple Store has gained much popularity as a strong distribution channel for software vendors, which is why we decided to summarize the most important things to consider when selling software for Mac.

I hope you will find this newsletter useful and interesting.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

Best regards,
Matthew Meir Silverman

Control Panel updates

1. Smart price rounding

Pricing configuration in the Main tab of the product settings now includes a smart price rounding option. This new feature will help you adjust product pricing for different markets, making prices more attractive for local customers.

How it works:

For example, your product price is $19.99 USD.

If a customer prefers to pay in Swiss Franc, it would be 18.49 CHF.

From the marketing point of view, a price ending with .49 is less attractive. Therefore, you might want to change it to 18.99 CHF. This is possible in PayPro's control panel where you can set up not only a scale for rounding, but you may choose to either round it up or down - 18.99 CHF or 17.99 CHF.

Though you can always manually define product price in different currencies, the new feature gives you much more flexibility since once it's done, the desired scale is automatically applied on all currency conversions.

2. Report enhancements

PayPro reporting provides advanced options to track all types of sales information and give you a deep insight into sales performance.

  • Additional reports are now available in the Sales Data Center - "Sales by coupons" has been added to let you easily track sales with coupons and measure effectiveness of your marketing campaigns.
  • "Sales" report now includes IP address, to help you analyze where your customers come from and concentrate marketing efforts on the desired markets.
  • "Sales by products" report is improved with "Group by name instead of ID" option which can be useful when analyzing sales of a specific group of products.
3. Flexible discount options

As part of a marketing strategy, you can allow both volume and coupon discounts for your products. With PayPro, you get complete control and can choose the order in which discounts will be applied if both volume and coupon discounts are used.

In addition, volume discounts can now be set up for subscription based products.

4. Expanded order options

Now you can easily regenerate the license for any order and send it to your customer in a matter of minutes. Just open order details and click "Regenerate license" link.

5. Advanced delivery options

To give you more options for product delivery, we have added functionality "Send one disc for all items" in the Delivery tab of the product settings. All purchased items can be delivered on one disc making it easier for customers to keep all items in one place.

Order pages update

Order page is now even more optimized for customers and allows viewing billable currencies right at the top of the currency list.

Tips&Tricks: selling Mac software online
For software vendors, Mac Apple Store (MAS) is a huge market place with lots of potential customers. Easy purchasing and licensing through MAS contribute a lot to its popularity growth.

Besides these major advantages, what factors should be considered when selling Mac software online?

Apple takes 30% commission on each sale, which is significantly higher than any eCommerce company would take.

The competition among Mac products is very high, meaning your product must be affordable and popular in order to gain high ranking. Considering these circumstances, it is recommended to use MAS as just another distribution channel, complementing your own web store on your web site.

Using a 3rd party payment processor gives you freedom to promote your product on your own terms - set up volume discounts, bundles, cross-sales and up-sales. You are free to establish partnerships with other vendors and successfully sell bundles through one eCommerce platform. What is really important is that you have instant access to your sales reports and are able to integrate with Google Adwords and Google Analytics to track your sales. The more information you have about your sales, the more options you have to improve your sales performance.

Developers selling only through MAS don't have any access to the customer information. This means there is no way to follow up on abandoned or unfinished orders or sell more products to existing customers. For software vendors who offer upgrades it decreases potential revenue. As our practice shows, cross-sells and up-sells are a great addition to online sales. The latest researches show that 75% of online shoppers expect additional offers with discounts. By denying the marketing options, you are limitinging your sales. In addition, free trials and recurring payments are not supported by MAS.

Taking into consideration all abovementioned points, Mac developers should find the best balance for their needs by using both selling methods - their own website and MAS, utilizing both methods to the fullest - and increase the profit not only by improving number of sales, but making payments more comfortable and easily keeping in touch with customers.
